Applies to the AI Away browser extension on Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari
AI Away is a browser extension that hides AI-generated interface elements
(AI Overview boxes, chatbot widgets, Copilot panels) on pages you visit.
This page explains what data the extension touches, why, and what happens to it. It's written to describe the extension's actual behavior. If anything here stops matching what the code does, that's a bug in this policy, not a license to do something undisclosed.

Question
Answer
Detail
Sells your data?
No
Never, under any circumstance.
Shows ads?
No
No advertising of any kind, in the extension or the popup.
Tracks your browsing history?
No
The extension only acts on the page currently open — it doesn't log or transmit which sites you visit.
Sends anything to a server?
No
The extension runs entirely locally in your browser.
What the extension does locally, on your device
These happen for every user, and none of it leaves your browser:
Page hiding. The extension reads the structure of the page
you're viewing (the DOM) to find and hide elements matching its default block list —
the same way any content-blocking or ad-blocking extension works[cite: 2]. This
happens locally, in your browser, on the page you're already looking at[cite: 2]. It is
not recorded, logged, or sent anywhere[cite: 2].
Why the extension asks for the permissions it does

storage
Saving your settings
Your on/off toggles and preferences, stored locally[cite: 2].
activeTab / scripting
Hiding elements
Lets the extension act on the page you're currently viewing when you interact with it[cite: 2].
Host access (all sites)
Works anywhere you choose
You decide which sites to block content on — the extension can't know that in advance, so it requests access broadly but only acts where enabled[cite: 2].
Data retention and deletion
Everything the extension stores (such as toggles and settings) lives in your browser's local extension storage[cite: 2]. Uninstalling the extension, or clearing its data through your browser's extension settings, removes it[cite: 2]. We don't retain a separate copy on our own servers, because we don't operate a server that this data passes through[cite: 2].
Children's privacy
AI Away is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your jurisdiction)[cite: 2].
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects what data is collected or how it's used, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, note it in the extension's release notes on the relevant store listing[cite: 2].
